Summary: This law would allow all Massachusetts employees to earn and use up to 40 hours of paid sick time. Earned sick time can be used for: caring for a physical or mental illness affecting the employee, their child(ren), spouse, or parent(s); to attend routine medical appointments, and to help a child of an employee who has medical problems caused from domestic violence. One hour of sick time would be earned for every 30 hours worked, and the employee could begin using them on the 90th day after hire. This law will not force employers that currently give as much or more paid sick time to give additional sick time. This law would take effect on July 1, 2015.
